More than 1,200 years have passed since Dachau was first mentioned in documents. So a lot of history(s) for a city tour Dachau. And there are turbulent times behind today’s great county town. Dachau Palace

In the 16th century Dachau became the preferred country residence of the Munich court. Under Duke William IV and Duke Albert V, the building was expanded into a powerful castle complex consisting of four wings. The highlight of the equipment of this hall is the Renaissance coffered ceiling. It is one of the most important creations of its kind in southern Germany. The coats of arms of Wittelsbach's clients and their consorts are embedded in the extremely richly designed grand ceiling. Elector Max Emanuel had Joseph Effner redesign the hall wing and its magnificent staircase in Baroque style from 1715 to 1717. At the beginning of the 19th century, three quarters of the castle complex was demolished. Only the baroque hall wing was preserved. The courtyard garden testifies to the different eras of garden art. Should it not be possible to visit Dachau Castle and/or the Hofgarten, this does not constitute a reduction in performance.
