Immerse yourself in authentic Balinese village life during this hands-on cooking experience in a village, nestled near Mt. Batukaru. From the moment you arrive in the small mountain village, you become part of Balinese life. You’ll stroll through the rice terraces, meet the farmers, and pick fresh herbs straight from the garden. Learn to play the Rindik, the bamboo instrument of the farmer, before starting your culinary journey. You prepare two kinds of Jamu, Indonesia’s ancient and very healthy herbal drink, before creating a full Balinese meal in Paon Bali, our open-air kitchen. There’s so much fun while cooking a huge culinary variety. It also includes Sate Lilit, grilled at Gerobak, our live bamboo grill, and Lak Lak, a traditional Balinese dessert cooked in a clay pot. The sounds of nature surround you while cooking, laughing, and sharing stories with the family. After enjoying your homemade lunch, you can even try planting rice, feed our cow “Manis,” or discover the stingless bees and their rare, healthy honey. Every moment feels real and personal—a genuine connection to Bali’s culture, traditions, and the warmth of its people.

Very interesting cuisine. We have a lot about the spices and dishes of the country and how to use them outside the kitchen. Especially the taste was great!

We did a cooking class and were lucky that we were alone. In the open kitchen we had the opportunity to cook some Balinese recipes ourselves and then eat them. Be careful! Make sure you're hungry! We were then able to eat our meals in peace in the idyllic atmosphere. I'd love to come back!

We had a great morning learning how to cook Balinese food. The staff were very friendly and keen to help you. When we arrived, we were able to try some Balinese fruit (mangosteen and one other) which was great as we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to try it on our trip. The setting was stunning and picturesque and a lovely walk down to the village through the forest and rice fields. The food we made with them was also delightful and we were able to take the recipes home with us that we had made.
