Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

When exceptional situations arise (e.g. environmental cancellations) it is important to reach you. This is easiest if you provide your contact number on the road (phone number + correct country code) & keep this with you on the day of the tour.
We only drop off at set drop off locations: Scandic Ishavhotel, Smarthotel, AMIhotel, Vervet, Wandering Owl office, Airport, Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Camping bus stop, Breivika Cruise Dock
Winter equipment is included, please give us your clothing and shoe sizes - fill out ewaiver form
Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking as well as medical condition if needed
Please bring your passport with you in case you need to cross to Finland during the tour
Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Make sure you wear a warm base layer, winter clothes including warm shoes, a hat, mittens, a scarf and woolen socks.
A small amount of walking is involved, you must be able to walk 200m
Please be prepared for limited toilet facilities, there will be a gas station stop during the drive, however the camp itself is in the wild Arctic nature where the only toilet possibilities are in the forest (there are no pre-built facilities).
Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if less than 4 passengers per tour. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund
We provide home-made vegan and gluten free soup
You must travel with travel insurance.
SIGN OUR eWAIVER. We need one participant to sign it on behalf of the group making sure that the names of all participants are in the document.

5.00We took two tours with The Wondering Owl. Both were great. This company uses mini vans and not all vans are going to the same place. So the tours feel intimate and not crowded. Also their guides take professional photos that they emailed us. Our guide, Mixu, knew several spots where to go to catch Aurora. We got lucky on the first one! We enjoyed a gorgeous Aurora, the bonfire, soup and hot drinks. Even though we saw a great Aurora later in Tromso for free, I would highly recommend this tour. During the week we were at Tromso only one day had clear sky. The tour guides will go several hours out of Tromso to find clear skies and Aurora. If you are coming to Tromso with the goal of seeing Northern Lights, think of this tour as an insurance policy

5.00The Northern Lights tour was amazing. We were fortunate enough to see the lights, but the highlights was the cozy atmosphere, informative guide (thanks Sophie!), and great location. Would definitely do this tour with the Wandering Owl again!

5.00Our family of four—including a six-year-old and a four-year-old—had an amazing time with them! When I was searching for an Aurora tour, another company told me that young kids weren’t allowed on the group tour. We’d have to book a private tour, which would cost double the price which is $1000 extra. Wondering Owl was kind enough to let us join the group tour, and they even provided car seats and kids’ thermal suits for us. We’re so grateful! The night was incredible. They took the group to an amazing spot, and everything was well organized. Plus, our tour guide took some beautiful photos. Highly recommend!

5.00Amazing evening with Magda as our guide and Michael driving. We went to the side of a Fjord to set up camp, via a stop on the way as the Lights made their first appearance, and then Magda enthralled us with tales as the magical Lights came and danced above us for the whole evening! I have waited my whole life to see them, and you made it possible, and so much fun - thank you!!

5.00Small group, no one else around, good time around the fire with soup and hot drinks. Michael and Alba were amazing ! We receveid good explainations about fishing or chasing northern lights. This night Alba decided to fish the auroras and he was so right in a wonderful spot ! We had an amazing show, colorful with dancing auroras. It was beyond words, magic happened ! But magic was also there because of Alba and Michael, thank you guys for sharing your passion, emotion, explaination, patience with us ! Definitly worth the monney

5.00An amazing experience chasing the aurora! Our guide Jordan was hugely knowledgable and friendly. He explained all the ‘science’ behind the phenomenon and some great bits of the folklore surrounding them. On what was a cloudy night he found us a ‘gap’ by 9pm, so we could all enjoy viewing the aurora for a couple of hours, during which we made camp, had delicious soup, and a warm by a camp fire.

5.00This experience was simply… magical! We stayed in Tromsø for three days, and the aurora forecast wasn’t good, so we had already accepted that we wouldn’t see anything. However, Magda managed to find the most beautiful spectacle for us. We are so grateful that we were able to see the northern lights thanks to her and Chris. Magda also took the most beautiful photos and was incredibly warm and accommodating. Thank you for everything!

5.00Wandering Owl is a great tour company, and our guide Alba, and driver Michael, were friendly, informative, honest, and brought a lot of authenticity and joy to our whole night. This would have been an enjoyable experience whether we saw the northern lights or not, because of the way Alba framed the night for us. However we did see them, thanks to the knowledge of our guide and driver who took us to find clear sky away from Tromsø, found a place without light pollution, and told us when it would be more likely to see them. Beautiful night and we were well taken care of.
