Our boat is really what sets us apart from other companies- we have a fast, fun and comfortable boat where everyone gets a cushioned seat, open viewing of the whales, onboard bathroom, lots of shade, and strong engines to help us maximize our time with the whales during your tour. Knowledgeable captains and crew who have worked among the whales for years will share whale facts and answer your questions. It's a great photo opportunity and most people who do it come back for more!

Aloha! Our group whale watching tours are fun for all ages and a great opportunity to experience seeing the Humpback Whales for yourself! Check in at MALA BOAT RAMP a MINIMUM of 15 MINUTES PRIOR to your tour time. It will be a barefoot cruise! Easy to remove footwear like flip flops are best. After a quick safety briefing, we will head out to find the most active whales. Our Captain and Crew will share their knowledge of the whales and are happy to answer any questions you may have. We do our best to provide the most personalized and exciting tours possible, but it's also important to realize that these amazing animals deserve a great amount of respect. We follow all regulations regarding distances, approach limits and make a big effort to avoid participating in any overcrowding of their space. Wear what's comfortable, make sure you have space on your camera and that the battery is charged and come out ready to have a good time!

Travis and Allison were so friendly and knowledgeable. The trip was a great blend of fun boat riding, working as a team to spot whales and watch them in their habitat, and education. We saw many whales and had a great time! A great excursion for all ages.

The experience was amazing! Travis and Allison did a great job finding whales and providing information about whales! They ask you to remove your shoes to keep the boat clean, so wear slip-off style shoes. The boat was comfortable, and provided great opportunity for viewing!

Crew was Travis + Dan and the trip was absolutely outstanding. We had the benefit of quiet and calm waters, but they right in among whales who came in close to the boat and... WOW... we were by ourselves with a "competition" of males chasing a female and have pics, video and audio we'll treasure for a lifetime.

I was hesitant to book a whale watching trip. We had seen tons of whales from our lanai and multiple people in my family have a track record of getting sick on boats. But I was convinced by my kids and I am so glad! We booked with Makai because I wanted to support a small business and because they could accommodate our group fairly last minute. I was a little nervous that it would just be some guy in a boat. But the boat was brand new, super comfy with a bathroom on board! Both of our guides (Dani and Travis) were super knowledgeable about the whales and lead whale tours in Alaska too so they knew the whales very well. Being surrounded by the whales at a distance of a few hundred yards is a completely different experience than seeing them from the shore. At one point a mom, baby and male swam around us at 20-30 feet. The mom waved her tail at us 15 or 20 times in a row and it really felt like they were trying to say hi. In the background there was a rainbow over Maui and it felt like such a perfect Hawaii moment. If you get seasick I recommend taking meds first…we did not have a problem. We booked the “regular” boarding option. I am not sure what the “premium” option gets you since it is a pretty small boat and you can see the whales from every direction.

Allison and Travis were fantastic! They made the trip fun and exciting and took us to where we saw many whale sightings. We got to see baby and mom with boyfriend following behind. A must do adventure for everyone visiting Maui! The boat was great as well, no bad place to sit, had a bathroom that was super clean and comfortable. Will absolutely do this again with them the next time we are visiting

We were on a girlfriends’ trip with a stop in Maui and chose Makai Adventures for whale watching after booking through Viator. The experience was seamless from start to finish—great communication, easy to find at the port, and very well organized. The price was excellent, and we saw an incredible number of whales during our time on the water. Travis and Micah were fantastic crew members, sharing insightful information about whale behavior and what to watch for, which made the experience even better. I would absolutely recommend Makai Adventures.
