It all seemed a bit thrown together. We waited ages at the terminal with very little direction or clue what was going on. Narvik station absolutely stunk resulting in us waiting out on the cold platform for over 40 mins. We were told to get there 30 mins in advance but nothing happened for 30 mins. Everything was shut and there was no signage to let you know if you were in the right place. The host, looking like another tourist, eventually made herself known and explained that what was going to happen when the train arrived. We then got on the train, got settled in our seats and then were asked to move to another carriage that was warmer. The whole group then had to squeeze into one carriage despite being several carriages on the train! This meant that there were only seats on the wrong side of the train. The guide made several references to the beautiful landscape but it was pitch black and we were sat on the wrong side of the train to even look out the window! When we got to Bjornafell (which isn’t actually on the Swedish border but near), we were encouraged to depart the train to have a wander - it was very pointless as it was very cloudy. Our daughter enjoyed the heaps of snow though! We then travelled to another station where we spent about an hour. Sadly it was cloudy so we saw absolutely nothing rendering the entire trip completely pointless. I do however note that there is nothing that can be done about the weather. The male Artic Train host was exceptional and played with our daughter so she wasn’t as bored. I would suggest going on this trip only if there’s at least broken cloud. It was very boring and pointless otherwise

We left on the train at 6.50pm as scheduled, they had half the train in darkness only slightly lit up with lanterns and the other half was lit normally. They gave everyone the choice in which part we wanted to sit in. During the ride we were offered free coffee and tea and the staff/guides were very nice and helpful on the train and kept us informed. We had a short stop at the first station near the Swedish border then carried on to the next station where we got off and walked a few yards away to Basecamp where they had refreshments and two camp fires set up with logs to sit on. The camp is pretty dark so good enough to see the northern lights if the conditions are right. Then after an hour at Basecamp we headed back to narvik station. Overall it was a good tour, the dark carriages lit by lanterns were a nice touch and added to the atmosphere and excitement of the journey. The only thing stopping a five star is the amount of time we got at Basecamp we left at 6.50pm and we were back at 9.50pm so the tour was in fact three hours long not four. It would've been nice if we got that extra hour at Basecamp and had two hours there instead of one as one hour isn't much time to try and see the northern lights.
