Goldbelt Tram
The Alaska Native Tour shares our worldview with distinct aspects of our Culture at each of our Totems. These monuments tell the backstory of how Nature influences both our People and our Culture. Cultural aspects include Oral Tradition, Ecological Knowledge, Social Practices, Music & Performance Arts, Artwork and Language. Nature’s influence includes Geology, Geography, Phenology, Ecology, Economics, Sustainability, and Biodiversity. Alaska Native Culture is organized wisdom, while the Science of Nature is organized knowledge. This tour is about how the two work hand in hand, to give us a higher sense of responsibility to our People, our Land and ourselves The Goldbelt Tram is located just steps off the cruise ship dock. The tram ascends up Mount Roberts from the lower terminal to a height of about 1,800 feet. A restaurant, theater, beer garden and retail shop are located at the top of the tramway, as well as connections to trails leading both up and down the mountain.

5.00I had questions about the native culture, and asked staff. In turn i got a personal tour at the top of the tram ride. Michael is a student at UAS. He studies indigenous governance and art. He is an excellent guide. He explained the meaning behind all the totems on the trail, which is beautiful in sunny weather.

5.00The Goldbelt Tram provided me with a view of some beautiful scenery and a good view of our ship. I did enjoy the ride, but it was much shorter than I thought it would be. The Alaska Native Tour was the best part, in my opinion. A young man named Michael, who was a Native Alaskan, led us on an interesting walking tour. He showed us many totem poles and told us a little about his life, and shared some of his family's stories. It was very informative.

5.00A very interesting tour with a local guide! Michael explained each legend and the lineage behind the totems. He was very patient with our questions and made sure we walked at a manageable pace. We recommend the tour, which lasts between 1-1.5 hours. Lots of useful information! Also, the tour gives VIP access to the tram so there is no waiting!
