First I want to say that all the sites were amazing. Our guide (Quick) was also incredible. But there were some issues. They told us the ride would take 6 hours but it was 10 hours. While the driver was very safe and I felt comfortable, I am not sure he knew where he was going some of the time. There were multiple times where we turned around after going up a road for a long time. This added a lot of travel time and was not enjoyable. The hotel was also very old, run down, and dirty. I think it is a place worth visiting, but I would probably recommend people rent a car and drive themselves. You can also book your own hotel closer to the sites as ours was very far away. I loved it, but the cost was extreme, especially for a group trip in Vietnam. Can do it yourself for probably $25-40 USD easily.

Im not even sure where to start with this. The tour was a disaster from start to finish. This was our 8th tour with viator this trip. Every other tour we received communication in advance confirming a time. Nothing for this. I messaged late at night but the chat was closed for the night. We got up at 5am and sat in reception at the tour start time of 6am for 1hr to see if anyone showed up. At 7.05 after various messages to viator, the tour operator. Someone turned up saying that the start time was as 6.45 and kept showing me that in his phone... the problem was this was not communicated... he then said that to apologise for the miscommunication they had upgraded us to a private tour. Clearly not the case at that notice! It was either no one else signed up or our booking had been forgotten about. It made for a really awkward 2 days when actually we had been really looking forward to the itinerary and the company of other travellers for a few days. We departed Hanoi, stopped once for coffee and once for lunch before arriving at the waterfalls. And then being taken to the caves. We returned to the lunch spot which was also the hotel. The rooms are very basic and the bed super hard and the first thing we found at the door of our room was a cockroach ... there were also ants running along the headboard... the only good thing i can say is that it has air conditioning. Next morning we started at 7am and this was where it appears the itinerary got thrown out. We were taken to a knife factory, something i have absolutely no interest in, next we went to Angel Eye mountain which was on the itinerary. We were then told we would be going for lunch and on to a temple before returning to Hanoi. At this point we disputed that this was not the itinerary we had paid for we were due to go back to the waterfalls pagoda. We were then left sat awkwardly for ages while they made various calls. They then said they would follow our itinerary and started out for the waterfall only for 10minutes later a call came through and they said this was not going to happen and returned to their itinerary but as a gesture could take us to “other relics”. By this point i was completely done and just wanted to return to Hanoi. The temple we were taken to took around 5 mins to look around. As the drive continued the guide changed tack and said this was a wet season tour as they only take you to the pagoda in dry season. Given wet season is May to September its already 2 months in so I don't understand why viator is still advertising these stops?? We returned to Hanoi around 5pm, an hour earlier than advertised. It felt very much like a rip off. Our guide told us if we wanted to stop over for pictures to let them know then proceeded to sleep for most of the journey so we ended up with lots of blurry pictures on the drive past of very beautiful countryside. Its really disappointing not to have had the tour we paid for, given the 6hour drive each way, it's unlikely to be something we will ever get to see again. It wasn't cheap at nearly £300 given the price of the hotel was less than £20 per night. I requested a partial refund as the tour was not as described. The response from viator was that they had submitted videos and photos of us that the guide had taken. I was not made aware that this was being done... this is a breach of my privacy!

Overall tour was very nice and enjoyable. Our tour guide Quick did a good job. He also took photos at each stop. They knew the correct time the dam gates are opened in China to see enough water in the waterfalls. Hotel pick up and drop was smooth. They provided water bottles during the journey. Be prepared for a 6-7 hour drive and they stopped at a good place for break. Day 1, we visited Mau dang dong temple and witnessed some ceremony. Our guide explained about the temple. Then we visited the angel eye mountain. There is a bit of walking, so wear shoes. Then we stopped at an incense village. This was OK. There was nothing special about this, not was it colorful. There was no incense smell either. Then we headed to the hotel. This is a remote place, so don't expect a lot of facilities. The room was big and there was a TV, WiFi, hot shower, AC but the bed was quite hard. Probably this is the best hotel in that location, so no complaints. On day 2, we went to Nguom Ngao (tiger cave). It was a good experience. There are some good stalactites and stalagmites. It was not very crowded. Water was dripping from many stalactites, which is rare to see in several caves. Then we went to ban gioc pagoda. We had to climb around 300 steps. There is a steep road too. Scooters were available for rent at the base of the hill too. It is not very difficult to climb. You can see china border. There is also a view point to see the waterfall. In dry season, the water flow is controlled. The Chinese have a dam some where upstream and they open the gates between 10:30- 11 AM. The peak amount of water will be seen between 11:15-11:45 AM. From the view point, we couldn't see a lot of water. Then we went to the water falls. By then, the dam gates were opened and there was sufficient water. The view was very nice. We opted for the rafting (50000 dongs per person) it is worth it. They take you on the raft close to the waterfall and stop there for 2 mins to take photos. Our tour guide took our photos as well. Then we headed back to Hanoi and reached around 8PM, with 2 stops (lunch and coffee). I enjoyed this tour and would recommend it (provided there is enough water in the falls). This tour is just not waterfalls. 2 things to improve - Better bus seats. Since it is a long journey, it is important to have comfortable push back seats. Our bus seats were not that comfortable. The only vegetarian food available was spring rolls. It is difficult to eat the same thing for 3 meals in a row (lunch on day 1, dinner on day 1, lunch on day 2). At least provide different menu in each meal, even if it is only 1 item.

In simple words this is a fantastic drive to the waterfalls. Things to know, Cao Bang is far from Hanoi. It takes many hours to get there so he prepared. Thankfully we knew this and was mentally and physically prepared for the journey. We opted to travel at day and not overnight to look at the views on the way. The further away from Hanoi the better the views outside your vehicle becomes. You will see local Vietnamese people going about their day. Which is wonderful as we wanted to see this outside of Hanoi. The tour is designed for adequate rest stops along the journey. The rest rooms/ toilets were well maintained in those places. Food along the way was great just like Hanoi. So you're guaranteed to have good food even at your destination. Take snacks with you so you can share between the tour group and that's a great way to make new friends. The particular guide we got that day (Yow was his name, I'm sure I misspelled it now) was a fantastic guy who made sure everyone was comfortable and well taken care of. He knew great details about places we visited and always answered questions with great enthusiasm. We could see his smile becomes big when we ask questions and he knew we were truly interested. Fantastic person he was. The place we slept for the night was clean and food was good. Basic facilities only, however for a night of sleep that is plenty. Rooms were quite big and that made us feel relaxed. Great overall. First day we visited only Angel eye mountain. Second day we visited the cave, pagoda and the waterfall. My only criticism would be that we should have done the cave the first day. That way we would have had more time for the waterfall. I really believe waterfall experience should be more as people traveled a great distance to see it. Our driver was a slow driver and maybe that's why I feel this way. He was traveling at 70km/h when the road sign was for 100km/h and the road ahead was empty, no one else in front of the road ahead. That was frustrating to look at that and do nothing. Hopefully other drivers go to speed limit. However I am giving 5 stars to the whole experience and ticking off a bucket list item with a big smile. Great work by the team.

Lots of driving but well worth it! I enjoyed the temple visit very much as well as the beautiful angel eye mountain. What a lovely surprise to see wild poinsettias growing as it was Christmas Eve! Meals were good although the hotel accommodation was a little rustic. The room was very cold even with the heat blasting and my bathroom was freshly sprayed clean but left wet so it made the cold Room damp and slippery. But we were quite remote so even the very hard bed was a good nights sleep. Got to the cave on Christmas morning - my first experience with a squat potty and pay for Use. I loved the country scenery surrounding the area and the mountains were spectacular. Then a quick trip To a high up temple where I got my first glimpse of China and the waterfall below. Once we got to the falls I was speechless at the sight! I can’t find enough words to say how beautiful they are! I was sad to leave them and the lovely northwestern part of Vietnam. The long drive back was spent marveling at the beauty of this area - well worth the time and distance to experience it all
