The park is known for its rugged rainforest mountains, steep ravines, Barron Falls, and, of course, Barron Gorge, carved out over thousands of years by the Barron River. When you arrive at Lake Placid, meet your guide to get ready for your white-water rafting tour on the river, which snakes its way down from the mountains toward the Coral Sea. During this scenic experience, enjoy a combination of calm water and a series of white-water rapids, providing you with both peaceful floating and more exciting action. You’ll raft for up to two hours on rapids up to grade III. No experience is necessary, making this a good choice for beginner rafters. Rafts hold up to 7 people plus your river guide, who keeps you safe and entertained. When your tour is over, return to your pickup point.

We did this 25 years ago, and wanted to she the experience again with our kids 19 year old and 16 year old. They loved it and want to do it again.

Not harder than you think? Take the bus before going to the bathroom. There's a lot of people, so the Lefting isn't going down as fast as you think! The flow is short and the water level is low, so the boats have to stand up and wait. If you want to try lefting once, go a little higher!

The booking process was convoluted - I was accidentally charged in US dollars instead of AUD over the phone. However, once we got to the venue, it was fantastic. Our guide, Jacob, was brilliant - he was full of enthusiasm, rafting knowledge and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable for the family.

I booked the tickets through Viator and the pick up spot was not listed anywhere. I had to reach out to the company to find out exactly where I was going to get picked up. The staff were very friendly and showed up early to the hotel next door (crystalbrook) to get us. Our van broke down on the way to the river. We had to wait for another bus to get us. We forgot to bring water and there was nothing to drink on the bus or at the river entrance. Make sure you bring water with you. Our guide Jana was great. She put us all at ease and was funny too. The rapids were the perfect level of challenge for a family with 12 year old boys. The photo package is worth it. The river is beautiful and the water wasn’t too cold. They rent water shoes but having your own will provide a better fit. You’ll leave your belongings in the bus and they will meet you at the bottom of the river. I feel like they could have done a better job of explaining the process on their website. Definitely worth it and a great experience.
