Statue of Liberty
Our first stop along the route. We pause in the water for a photo op. Note that you do NOT leave the boat. Rising from Liberty Island, this symbol of freedom stands 305 feet tall. Lady Liberty was a gift from France in 1886 representing democracy and friendship between the two nations.

2.00My family and I went on this tour expecting to gain more insight about New York’s history. There were several buildings, sculptures, bridges, etc. we passed and would have enjoyed being more informed about. Instead the tour guide provided information about only a few select pieces of NYC’s infrastructure. The 90 minute tour was met with a great mixture of silence and/or information unrelated to the sights. My husband and I are educators; our son will be attending his first year of college this fall. We all consider ourselves life long learners and generally look forward to these types of tours for this reason. This particular tour did not fulfill this desire. I will be remiss if I fail to mention that the tour guide was very nice and personable. He would just not be the type of person we would want as a sightseeing tour guide for future tours.
