What comes to mind when you think of Zen?

Before engaging in Zen meditation, a local guide will lead you to a garden where you can immerse yourself in the essence of Zen.

"Zen" is an inherently esoteric Buddhist concept, even for the Japanese. While the word "Zen" may conjure thoughts of Zen meditation, this tour will initially guide you to a garden imbued with Zen principles. Amidst the tranquil setting of the Zen garden, a local guide will provide you with fundamental information on how to appreciate both the garden and the practice of Zen meditation."

Visit Tofukuji Zen Temple, one of the five Great Zen Temples in Kyoto, and partake in a Zen meditation experience.

We will then proceed to Tofukuji Temple, one of the five great Zen temples in Kyoto. Tofukuji boasts a rich history, serving as a residence and Zen practice site for monks since the 13th century.

Following this exploration, we will make our way to a smaller temple within Tofuku-ji dedicated to zazen practice.

Amazing time! It was a wonderful experience - learning about Zen lifestyle and practicing Zazen meditation. Everything was very well-organized by our guide, Yutaka. The Kyoto-style lunch was delicious and really big! I didn’t expect to enjoy vegan food this much, but it was absolutely delicious! Overall, this is a must-try experience in Kyoto. I’d recommend going

I highly recommend this tour. It was probably one of our most memorable moments in Kyoto. Hikari was our guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the different temples, the organization of them and the history. The tour felt very calm and meditative just from her demeanor and voice. The best part of the tour was the one hour meditation. The monk who led the meditation only spoke Japanese, so Hikari prepped us before with what to expect. There was a brief break in the middle, and she also translated for us some of the additional tips and history he shared. At the end, the monk came over and spoke with us, allowing us to ask any questions which then Hikari translated. This was truly amazing and I highly recommend it if you have any interest in Zen meditation, Buddhism or philosophy and meditation in general.

Yutaka was a wonderfully knowledgeable guide and a great person. His enthusiasm for Zen Buddhism and for Kyoto comes through in every site we visited. We enjoyed thoroughly his company, and we very much appreciate his inner kindness. The Zen meditation experience with a monk was priceless. 🙏

As a longtime visitor to Kyoto from Hong Kong, I wasn't sure if this Zen meditation and temple tour would offer me anything new. But this experience ended up being the highlight of my most recent trip. My guide Yutaka san was an absolute delight - not only was his English well, allowing for clear translation, but his passion and knowledge for sharing Zen Buddhism with me was truly impressive. Yutaka san mentioned I was the first person he had ever met from Hong Kong on this tour, which made the experience even more special. One of the most meaningful parts was when we visited the smaller temple within Tofukuji that was dedicated to Zen meditation practice. There, I was guided through the meditation process by a resident monk. His serene yet approachable demeanor put me at ease as he walked us step-by-step through the proper techniques and mindset. Coming from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, where we're constantly immersed in work and daily pressures, having this opportunity to truly pause and experience Zen meditation was incredibly valuable. The monk's guidance, combined with the peaceful temple setting, allowed me to achieve a level of self-reflection that I rarely get to access in my normal routine. Yutaka's expertise in conveying the history, philosophy and cultural significance of Zen Buddhism throughout the tour also gave me a much richer understanding of this profound tradition. Even as a seasoned Kyoto visitor, I left feeling like I had discovered an entirely new dimension to the city. We as tourists always appreciate the beauty of Kyoto's scenery, temples, and old buildings, etc, but I think when we know the deeper meaning and history behind these sites, the journey becomes more meaningful and memorable. I cannot recommend this tour enough, especially for fellow Hong Kong residents seeking an authentic Zen experience and respite from the stresses of daily life. Yutaka and the resident monk created an incredibly welcoming and transformative environment for me to engage with these ancient spiritual practices. A true highlight of my time in Kyoto.

Relaxing tour. Walking to nice temple while learning about Zen buddism. Meditation with detailed explanations by a real monk. The lunch in the end was delicious (and Im usually very picky).
