What comes to mind when you think of Zen?
Before engaging in Zen meditation, a local guide will lead you to a garden where you can immerse yourself in the essence of Zen.
"Zen" is an inherently esoteric Buddhist concept, even for the Japanese. While the word "Zen" may conjure thoughts of Zen meditation, this tour will initially guide you to a garden imbued with Zen principles. Amidst the tranquil setting of the Zen garden, a local guide will provide you with fundamental information on how to appreciate both the garden and the practice of Zen meditation."
Visit Tofukuji Zen Temple, one of the five Great Zen Temples in Kyoto, and partake in a Zen meditation experience.
We will then proceed to Tofukuji Temple, one of the five great Zen temples in Kyoto. Tofukuji boasts a rich history, serving as a residence and Zen practice site for monks since the 13th century.
Following this exploration, we will make our way to a smaller temple within Tofuku-ji dedicated to zazen practice.

This tour offered a truly unique experience. We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the serene Zen temples and admiring the beautifully maintained Zen gardens. A highlight was meeting a Zen monk who introduced us to the practice of Zen meditation and guided us through a session. Following the meditation, we were treated to an incredible lunch. The entire tour was thoughtfully organised, well-planned, and highly informative. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a deeper, more mindful experience.

Yutaka was an incredible guide—knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely excited to share the depth of Kyoto’s history with us. He had a gift for explaining all the little details throughout the tour, whether we were visiting Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, or lesser-known historical sites around the city. You could truly feel how much he loved what he did, and that energy made the entire experience so much more engaging. The tour itself was incredibly well-curated, offering a layered understanding of Kyoto’s spiritual and cultural foundations. I would highly, highly, highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to go beyond the surface and really get to know what this city is built on. And to top it all off, the food at the end was amazing—a thoughtfully prepared multi-course meal that was the perfect final touch. Overall, this tour gets an A+ from me.

This was such a reflective and spiritual day. Our tour guide Yutaka was friendly and felt comfortable talking with him. We learned about his culture and the area. We saw a few Buddhist temples and were able to sit and reflect before going to the main temple where we actually spent some time meditating with a Buddhist priest. If ever you were curious about zazen meditation or Buddhist practices, this is a must do. Then we finished the day having lunch together and it was just wonderful.
