Great experience. Kana was professional, informative and so welcoming. The pace of the sushi making was fantastic and easy to follow and we felt so comfortable asking questions and talking. I extremely recommend Atelier Sushi making experience. The gift at the end was such a great surprise. Thank you for making us feel at home :)

This sushi making session was absolutely delightful in every way! Kana and her husband, filling in as the teacher’s assistant, were gracious & welcoming hosts in their lovely space. Kana was a perfect teacher, pacing the class as needed, with much patience and humor, while being totally engaging with each of the 4 participants. It was not only a perfect opportunity to learn the basics of creating sushi, but also an all around lovely and informative visit with the hosts. The sushi ingredients were varied, fresh and beautiful. We got to visit while eating our creations (that were really quite impressive!) when completed, and were gifted with a sushi set to take home with us. The whole experience left me smiling for days afterward. I so highly recommend this and will definitely do it again if ever I return to Kyoto. Thanks you so much, Kana!

My girlfriend and I took a sushi-making class at Atelier Sushi in Kyoto, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Kana, our instructor, was absolutely wonderful—so warm, friendly, and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Her husband assisted throughout the class, and together they created an unforgettable experience that felt both personal and authentic. The quality of the ingredients was incredible. The fish was so fresh, and the rice was honestly the best we’ve ever had. Kana explained each step clearly, with perfect English, and shared fascinating insights about Japanese culture. We learned so much and had so much fun that we didn’t want the class to end. We’re so grateful for their kindness and hospitality, and we’ll definitely take what we learned home to make our own sushi with the same spirit. If you’re in Kyoto and even thinking about taking this class—do it. You won’t regret it. It’s an experience we’ll remember forever.

Highlight of our honeymoon! Ayumi was absolutely wonderful. The fish was so fresh, and the rice was perfectly seasoned! They gave us a sushi kit afterwards, and we’re excited to use it. Highly recommend!

My husband and I received this sushi-making workshop as a gift from friends who knew how much we wanted to learn the basics of making sushi — and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience! We learned how to cook sushi rice the proper way and how to prepare both nigiri and maki rolls. The fish was exceptionally fresh and of the highest quality, and the portions were generous, making the tasting part at the end especially enjoyable. Kana-san was not only a skilled and patient teacher but also a wonderful host. We had the pleasant surprise of meeting her husband as well, and together they made us feel truly welcome. While preparing and sharing the meal, we had a lovely conversation and learned so much about Japanese culture and everyday life. For anyone interested in Japanese food and traditions, this workshop is a perfect combination of culinary learning and cultural discovery. We absolutely loved it and couldn’t recommend it more!

We had such a lovely time at this little family-owned sushi-making class in Kyoto! My fiancé and I absolutely loved the experience — it was fun, hands-on, and so delicious. The women running the class were incredibly kind, patient, and helpful, guiding us step-by-step while making us feel right at home. You can tell how much care and passion they put into what they do. It was such a warm, welcoming environment — perfect for couples, families, or anyone wanting to experience authentic Japanese culture in a really personal way. The sushi we made turned out amazing (and we got to eat plenty of it!). Highly recommend this class, especially if you have kids. A truly memorable experience in Kyoto!
