One Hundred Dollars? Are you kidding? The 90 minutes guided your consists of 45 minutes slow walk around the 3 art schools, non-existant kiwis and a small thermal spring with a good geyser. The best bit was being able to walk around the small area yourself. How does this get so many good reviews? It's a rip off.

This was a fascinating tour- the geysers were interesting but the discussions around Maori life and traditions were just fascinating. I only wish more time was spent on that- maybe a review before the walking tour?

Fun and informative tour, filled with Maori culture, Kiwi’s and geothermal activity, unlucky not to see the Geyser, but lucky to see the Kiwi…

Te Puia was absolutely beautiful and one of the most enjoyable experiences we had in Rotorua. The entire visit was well organised and punctual, starting with a pleasant, knowledgeable guide who set the tone from the beginning. The guided walk was relaxed and informative, never rushed, and gave us a deep appreciation of both the geothermal landscape and Māori culture. The geothermal valley is stunning — steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, and dramatic scenery that feels otherworldly. Walking through it is an experience in itself. We also really enjoyed seeing the kiwi conservation area and the traditional carving and weaving, which adds cultural depth rather than feeling like a tourist add-on. Everything felt authentic, calm, and respectful, with space to explore, learn, and simply enjoy the surroundings. Overall: A beautifully curated experience that balances nature, culture, and education perfectly. Verdict: A must-do in Rotorua — scenic, meaningful, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish.

The guide walked ahead of the group. No microphone so you could not hear her but I don't think she was speaking anyway. She was asked a few questions and appeared to have minimal knowledge. We were told that we would miss the hourly eruptions by 5 minutes and we could wait at the end of the tour for an hour and go back to watch the main event of the tour on our own. We skipped the end of the tour and waited for the eruptions on our own. It was spectacular. If we had gone back at the time given we would have missed the erruptions by 10 minutes. Worst tour ever but only way to see the guiser eruptions. $170 aud for our own self tour!

Very disappointing experience and poor value for money, especially given that the guided tour is the only option. The tour tried to cover too much in a short time — the kiwi house, geyser and Māori school — which meant everything felt rushed and surface level. There was very little explanation of how the geysers work or the geothermal activity more broadly, and limited opportunity to ask questions or engage. The Māori school felt out of sync with the rest of the tour. We were looking forward to learning more about Māori culture but didn’t feel we came away with meaningful understanding or insight. Overall, the site has real potential, but the current format prioritises breadth over depth and doesn’t justify the cost.

We had a great guided tour with Ivee. She was very knowledgeable about the Maori culture, environment, school, and kiwi birds. Ivee is very patient with kids and large groups. Highly recommend!

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Hunter was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and humorous. He spoke with great passion about his culture. A must do on a visit to Rotorua.

Te Puia is a renowned cultural and geothermal experience in Rotorua, New Zealand. It is home to the famous Pohutu Geyser, bubbling mud pools, and steaming hot springs that showcase the region’s volcanic power. Visitors can also engage deeply with Māori culture through guided tours, traditional carving and weaving schools, performances, and a hāngī-style meal. The experience blends natural wonder with living indigenous heritage, offering insight into history, art, language, and spiritual connections to the land.

We had a memorable visit to Te Puia, with the staff and the environment being real standouts. Every team member we encountered was warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming, which made a strong impression from the start. The kapa haka performance was outstanding—one of the best I’ve seen anywhere. The harmonies were tight, the energy was incredible, and the group showed deep cultural respect and authenticity. This alone was a highlight worth mentioning. The tour itself was very well organised and ran smoothly. Our guide was friendly and ensured we moved through the experience efficiently, though she shared less information than we expected. It felt more like being escorted than being immersed in the stories and history behind what we were seeing. By the end, we did feel a meaningful connection to Māori culture, and Te Puia clearly puts a lot of care into presenting it respectfully. However, the experience is on the expensive side, and we left weighing the value for money. Overall, Te Puia offers a polished cultural experience with exceptional staff and a world‑class kapa haka performance. A bit more depth from the guided portion would make it even stronger.
